| I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time our family had at your home. The kids can't stop talking about the animals, the creek, the fruit trees and the pond. And the adults loved the beautiful accommodations, serene environment and natural setting. It was perfect! We hope to return in the future. I also wanted to tell you how extremely helpful your caretaker was during our stay. Thank you for everything! J.D. July 2008 We had a wonderful stay. We absolutely loved the Barns with the fireplaces and kitchen, great for cooking. The rooms were cozy and the linens were fabulous. Waking up to the sound of the stream was a treat. The grounds are beautiful and my dad said the orange from the garden was the best orange he ever had! We will definitely come back. Next time I hope the weather will be nice so we can take a dip in the river. Feb. 2008 We had an absolutely wonderful time this weekend at the ranch. "The Barns" was the perfect house for our gang. Everyone fit comfortably and the setting could not have been better. We enjoyed exploring the grounds, hiking up through the canyon, and our kids especially loved tossing stones into the creek! The house fit our group perfectly. The C's family reunion....blessed to be here....heavenly 4 days in this serene and peaceful piece of heaven on earth. What a memorable time here. B.C.
Thank you so very much for a most wondrous magical wedding! I can't imagine a more amazing place to have had it. (Two couples) celebrated their 40th anniversary together with their kids and grandchildren.......We love The Dent House..! A small group of family and friends cooked, played and celebrated. It was a magical time punctuated by the calls of the peacocks and late night swims in the springs. New friends were made, old ones were reunited and a wonderful couple began their life's adventure. This wonderful setting was the "potion" that enhanced these special times. Our families and friends gathered for a weekend of fun. We hiked, ate too much wonderful food, visited, sat on the porch and got married.The whole property is amazing, , but the Dent House in particular is special.... ..peace and luxury... Just wanted to drop you a note to say how much we enjoyed the East Barn and the property as a whole. It is such a special place, with incredible beauty and quiet!! We got out and enjoyed the caynon every morning - it was wonderful. We also enjoyed fruit off the citrus trees, which was a first time for us. I have to also comment on how well stocked the kitchen is. We have not rented homes before and did not know what to expect. It had everything we needed, although we got out to enjoy the Ojai restaurants most nights. So, thanks very much. D.W. January 2007 Wow! we had the most amazing time! I cannot tell you haow happy everyone was with the East Barn and all of the hiking trails and both dogs, Maggie and John Boy, who joined us on each hike, the creek, and the birds, and the donkey, and the horse, and Fred, and our neighbors, and our weather, and our food, and our fireplace! Nothing could be improved. We all want to visit again I do hope you continue to rent out this amazing space. S. January 2007 (We all) came.. for a family reunion. Great hikes and wonderful meals. We were comfortable and happy here. We had a wonderful wedding and an the most amazing weekend of our lives at the Dent house. We are so lucky to have found it and thank you so much. Our celebration was truly magical in the fairyland of the fruit grove at The Dent House. I wanted to write and let you know how much we enjoyed staying at the ranch. I have not stopped talking about it since we returned. I thought it was going to be beautiful - but I never imagined it to be that beautiful. The homes - the location - your family has excellent taste, the furnishings are beautiful. And the setting, what a dream.

We’ve had a lovely three days celebrating 3 birthdays and one wedding—the highlight! The setting was glorious – roses and lemons decorated the scene. Weather was superb also. Thank you for sharing your great vacation spot.
This will be an after memory to cross my mind, the contemplation drifting asleep in a hammock. And the wedding! That’s what it was all about, special place, special time…greatest place in California.
The Dent House has been exquisite! Coming here has been a truly unique experience! Our whole family has come here to celebrate my wonderful grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary, and no place could have been a better place to go. We’ve loved Ojai, Ventura Beach and all of the beautiful trails and swimming holes! The green hills and fruit orchards are unbelievable. All of the Barns and the Dent House are so amazing! I will always value our trip here and will never forget it! I hope everyone else who stays here loves it as well!
I promised the group who signed on for my recent June retreat an easy weekend in the country near Ojai. When we arrived at the spacious, elegantly renovated Guest Barns at Matilija Ranch I knew I’d kept my promise. Even though this property is a mere ten-minutes from town, it’s downright remote. Come night, the moon and stars have no city light competition whatsoever, and the stars do shine. Daytime, peacock croons and a braying burro cause the only ruckus. And Hallelujah, not one of our cell phones worked in the canyon. Enforced down time for a bunch of stressed out city slickers. Now that’s good medicine.
The 550-acre sanctuary in Matilija canyon rests on the edge of Los Padres National Forest. A burro named Bumper, free roaming peacocks, peahens and a gaggle of geese and ducks make this place home. Fruit laden orchards scent the air. Seductive yard swings yawn in the breeze, hummingbirds sip nectar from morning glories, holy hocks, and Matilija Poppies that grow wild in Ojai’s valley. The serene valley’s canyons and the surrounding Topa Topa Mountains, famous for the pink glow they give off at sunset, boast hidden treasures right out the barns’ backdoor. We hiked toward a landmark known by locals as Old Man Mountain, because the distinct visage of a wise old man peers out from the distant mountainside. We cooled off at a swimming hole, fed by a nearby waterfall. When you’re on the trail listening to seeds crackle and pop open on mulberry bushes it’s hard to fathom that L.A. rages only a 90-minute drive away. Ojai has a kinship with storybook places like Shangri-la and Brigadoon, dreamy places untouched by time. In fact, Ojai’s Dennison Grade was used to depict mythical Shangri-La in the film classic:”Lost Horizons.”
I had a great time!! My mom and dad put on a retreat in the Dent House. I’m nine and a nomad. A storybook weekend for this country boy—rushing water, rising mountains, bubbling creeks, stunning flowers and orchards. The house was charming and comfortable thanks for making it available for us. See you again soon. We gathered here from Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, Texas and Hawaii. (oh and Virginia). The ranch proved an idyllic setting for family and long lost, (not forgotten) friends to have a reunion with nature and with each other. We found our time here to be exempt from public chaos with tongues in trees and breath in running brooks. We leave today for off places, but will be back. What an unbelievable time! My husband went to great lengths to give me a 40th birthday I will never ever forget. All three houses filled to the brim-23 of my closest friends and family from all over the country. Friends that have known me 30 years and more flew in from New York, Pennsylvania and Florida. It was a magical three days of so much love, laughter. Fires burning in our hearts and in each room –and a lot of wine. New memories made that we all take with us as we turn to go about our lives again. Many thanks for the magic and the memories that are here—peace and love to all who enter. Thank you for a fabulous time! The house and canyon exceeded our expectations! So cozy and warm, this group of 7 moms will surely return. We cooked, drank wonderful wine, hiked, shopped and laughed! The donkeys were a highlight as they kept us amused. Awesome memories to last a lifetime. Thank you. 40th birthday party—family and friends from around the world came to celebrate and play around. The best time was had by all!! We’ll be back (again) We loved the place very much! Great friends in a beautiful home, we have made beautiful memories, thank you. We are all planning another visit! Such a beautiful, peaceful valley with so grand an accommodation. We could all be together and find quiet spots to be alone, great runs, bike rides, hikes and animals. The dogs ready to greet us in the morning, the very confused rooster…the hens’ eggs. The childrens’ favorites, the horse and burros. The barbecue pit, the kitchen, the front steps that gave us a great photo of us together and the morning sunshine on the white wicker a perfect breakfast spot. Thank you for it all! The B. and K. families from Palos Verdes and Encino Calif. had an incredible Thanksgiving at the Dent House. Hiked, fished (we did better than catch and release, we practiced no catch), played games and ate and ate and then we ate – best stove to cook on! This place is truly a gem!! Arrived from Bacara at $600.00 per night and liked the canyon much more! Watched the full moon rise, shut all lights off. Watched sunrise enter the canyon, hiked before breakfast. Had a great time! |
